Der schwarz/weiss Stummfilm basierend auf Samuel Becketts Skript zeigt einen sehr avangardistischen Film über den Film an sich. Zur Szenerie: Man sieht zu beginn den Darsteller Buster Keaton (Charakter genannt „O“ = Objekt) sein Gesicht versteckend an einer Häuserwand entlang laufen. Er triff auf ein Paar, oder besser, er stolpert in sie hinein und stürzt dann weiter. Die beiden reagieren empört wobei der Mann von seiner Frau unterbrochen wird als er einen Kommentar an „O“ geben will. Anschließend an diese Szene ändert sich die Kameraperspektive in die Ich-Form und wird laut Beckett nun als „E“ (Eye – das Auge) bezeichnet, vor dem das Paar entsetzt zurückweicht.
O nun im Treppenhaus seiner Wohnung angekommen und bereits auf den ersten Stufen in das folgende Stockwerk, weicht zurück auf die Kellertreppe, als er eine älter Frau bemerkt die die Stufen herunter kommt. O selbst kauert sich auf den Stufen zusammen um nicht gesehen zu werden. Auch hier folgt die entsetzte, ohnmächtige Reaktion der Frau auf den Blick in E.
O betritt seine Wohnung. Ein kahler Raum, lediglich ein paar Gegenstände, welche im weiterem Verlauf des Films als Elemente dienen. O sieht sich im Raum um und wandelt umher und verdeckt alles was ihn selbst wahrnehmen könnte. Auch vor dem Zuschauer wendet er sich stets ab. Fenster und Spiegel werden verhangen, Vogel und Fische mit Mänteln abgedeckt, Katzen und Hunde aus der Wohnung gebracht und Fotos zerrissen. Anschließend setzt sich O, nun scheinbar beruhigt in seinen Schaukelstuhl. Er nickt kurz ein, wird jedoch wie durch einen schlechten Traum aus seinem Schlaf gerissen und sieht sich E gegenüber. An dieser Stelle stellt man fest, dass O und E die gleiche Person sind.

Meinem eigenem Empfinden nach ist der Film ein Film von Künstlern für Künstler. Zu diesem Schluss komme ich, weil ich mir den Film zunächst angesehen habe ohne eine Kritik oder einen Text der Macher des Film durch zu gelesen. Ich schaute mir den Film also ohne Vorkenntnisse an und das Ergebnis war, dass das sicherlich viele mit mir teilen. Ich verstand nicht ansatzweise worauf die dargestellten Situationen anspielen geschweigedenn was die Aussage des Ganzen sein sollte. Ein sehr abstrakter Handlungsstrang, ebenfalls auch noch abstrakt dargestellt mit minimalistischen Mitteln. Ich verstehe durchaus, dass bei einer der Aufführungen, wo dieser Film neben anderen Buster Keaton Filmen gezeigt wurde mit Ablehnung reagiert wurde. Das übliche Keaton Publikum erwartet Humor und keine tiefgründigen ernsten Themen, die auf abstrakte Weise dargestellt werden.
An anderer Stelle, vor anderem Publikum wurde er allerdings wieder gelobt. Nämlich bei einem Filmfest mit Zuschauern, die derartige Filme nicht nur öfters sehen, sonder auch verstehen wollen und können, da es zum einen ihr Metier ist und zum anderen natürlich auch ihre Passion. Dies kann man nicht von einem Buster Keaton Publikum erwarten, die sich auf einen Abend mit Lachen und Slapstick gefreut hatten und etwas anderes vorgesetzt bekommen.

Mir persönlich erschloss sich der Film erst durch die Texte von Kritikern und dem des Regisseurs. Hier werden bereits Anhaltspunkte gegeben, mit denen man dann zu dem gleichen Resultat wie andere Kritiker kommt oder zu dem des Autors oder zu einem ganz eigenem. Hier ist aber Vorwissen gefragt, welches dem normalen Zuschauer zunaechst vorenthalten wird. Wie zum Beispiel, dass das Bild das O von der Wand reißt eine Darstellung von Jesus oder Gott sein soll. Außerdem verwendet Beckett den Schaukelstuhl auch in anderen Texten als eine Allegorie für den Tod oder auch als „Todesschaukel“. Dies sind natürlich Informationen die wichtig für das Verständnis sind.

Mein Interpretation des Films sieht nun wie folgt aus:
Der Film ist ein schwarz/weiß Stummfilm der 1965 gedreht wurde und einen Schauspieler enthält der genau mit diesem Medium sehr viel Erfahrung hatte. Stummfilme waren in dieser Zeit nicht gerade mehr das übliche Mitte für Regisseure, genauso wenig wie die Darstellung in schwarz/weiß. Also gehe ich davon aus, dass es nicht allein um den Film sonder vielmehr um den Stummfilm geht.

Ersetzen ich O als Figur durch den Stummfilm als Objekt bemerke ich, dass der Film versucht sich zu verstecken vor Gott und der Welt. Er will zur Ruhe kommen, allein gelassen werden. Er ist alt geworden (Buster Keatons faltigen und immer wieder zu sehenden Hände stellen das deutlich dar, genauso wie die seine verschwommene unklare Sicht) und verlangt nach Einsamkeit. Hinzu kommt dass der „Stummfilm“ immer wieder seinen Puls kontrolliert, als wolle er prüfen ob er überhaupt noch am leben oder schon tot ist. Vielleicht versucht er sich deswegen abzuschotten um in Ruhe zu sterben und nicht fuer alle sichtbar zu Grunde geht. Vielleicht will er auch nicht wahrhaben, dass seine Zeit gekommen ist und verschließt sich deswegen. Deshalb schwelgt er noch einmal in seiner Mappe mit Bildern in Erinnerungen an vergangene Zeiten. Doch auch hier muss er zuletzt der Wahrheit und damit dem Bild von sich selbst ins Gesicht.

Ersetze ich E als unser Auge mit dem wir die Schauspieler im Film betrachten durch die Leinwand an der die Stummfilme gezeigt wurden, stelle ich fest, dass die Personen im Film schockiert auf den Stummfilm reagieren. Sie begreifen, dass der Tod kurz bevor steht und sehen somit dem Tod ins Gesicht.

Die Katze und der Hund sind Jungtiere, sind also sowohl vom Alter als auch von ihrem Verständnis nicht soweit um auf O zu reagieren. Eventuell ein Verweis auf die neue Zuschauergeneration.

Der Papagei und der Fisch (bla bla – blubb blubb) sind möglicherweise Hinweise auf die Medien, die unablässig berichten und sich wiederholen. O muss die Behältnisse mehrmals abdecken um sie zur ruhe zu bring.
...
Der Schaukelstuhl den Beckett auch öfters als Allegorie zum Tod benutzt zeigt, dass O sich dem Tode näher mit jeder Bewegung des Stuhls wie das Pendel einer Uhr.

Chaos and Confusion (Ina)

My page for the Synopsis magazin.
All parts are taken from pictures I made while I was running around in Enschede and Hamburg.
All signs you can see are normal signs which could be misunderstood if you what to. Arrows which rises upwards to the sky? Bicycle path in black and sidewalk coloured? Yes all these happy thing you can find outside in our cities.


Chaos

Chaos (pronounced kayos) (derived from the Ancient Greek, Chaos) typically refers to unpredictability, and is the antithesis of cosmos.

Chaotic systems are systems that look random but aren’t. They are actually deterministic systems (predictable if you have enough information) governed by physical laws, that are very difficult to predict accurately (a commonly used example is weather forecasting).

Confusion

Confusion, of a pathological degree, usually refers to loss of orientation (ability to place oneself correctly in the world by time, location, and personal identity) and often memory (ability to correctly recall previous events or learn new material). Confusion as such is not synonymous with inability to focus attention, although severe inability to focus attention can cause, or greatly contribute to, confusion. Together, confusion and inability to focus attention (both of which affect judgment) are the twin symptoms of a loss or lack of normal brain function.

Convertet Vegetarian (Arjan)

My idea of making advertisement usable fotos for a vegetarian way of living.
I tried to make foto in comic style which are very easy to remember at afterwards.
All of them are very good to use for all kinds of advertisements I think, caused by their very simple beeing.
There is no big story about what you see. So you can put all kinds of text on them and it will work.

RSS battle (Johan)

My idea of a website witch uses RSS-feed was to bring two different groups together an let them discuss with eachother by there upcoming RSS-output.

That could be very big companies, like in the shown example the "OPEC" and the "WWF" or also private people, which start a discussion about all kind of things they´re into. I also though about the possibility that the opponent which has more RSS-feed than the other should be the winner, or users have to rate the feeds.

So "Bobot RSS-battle" is a platform for discussions.

The visual design is very clear. The shown example is a tennis court designed in flash, which moves while reading the RSS-feed like you see a real tennis match.
The matrix of possible feeds is now a matrix by 5x5. This should increase if more feeds would be added to this playground.

Critical Kong

Like I said, here comes my next illustration.

It´s a caricature of one of my former bosses. He is very critical about other people and also about himselfe.
I choosed for the diamond back gorilla, not because it´s a dumb deer, but because the gorilla is quiet near to mankind, but doesn´t speaks the same speach. Another reason was his position of a leader, his wisdom an his strength. So the gorilla was not not a method to blame my former boss, I just tried to explain his agressive charakter and the difference between us.
The straw what comes out of his damages body makes him look like a pupped, what he was for me, because of his weired thoughts which caught him in his small way of thinking. Poorly he goes on eating up the straw of his own body an repeating damaging him and otherones.

I think I got to do more of those things. Thanks Roland. For me it was a pleasure to work on it.

You can get these CDs in every good sorted record shop or markets like Mediamark, where I got it from.

...and that was also the place where my girlfriend and I found out that these CDs was pressed in a hugh amount, because we were standing in front of 50 or more CDs which showed my girlfriend at this beach. - Interresting experience!

By having a look at my photos I noticed that in one of them was a courios detail.

Why does St. Michael grab his nuts?!
... think I´ll never know. But what first comes in my mind was Michael Jackson.

P.S.: This photo was taken at the Völkerschlachtdenkmal / Monument of the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig which is the talest monument in all europe.

Note that this logo is just a layout-version, but the finally logo will just have some small changes. Right now I´m doing fine tunings and make some variations so the hole class can choose one out of them. I´ll post a new download-link when the final logo is done.

To bring that into a viewable form Roland let us work with one box of his huge amount of illustrations.

my idea was to create a logo where every letter, if it is standing on its own, will look somehow incomplete, but by combining them they will show up the hole thing.

I started with "Synopsis" in Futura-font, because the font is almoste the same like the Avenir-font Tom and Louis had chosen for the basic typography.

Ramones (Atelier)

Leendert Masselink is an ex aki-student and works almost for magazines, but also has huge output of own artwork.

In his first lesson he gives us the advice to make paintings of the Ramones .
The difficulty of this was that we had to draw it while one song of the Ramones was playing and we had to stop with the end of the song. What Leendert wanted to show us was, that we had to loose our correctness of drawning and think about the essence of our painting.

Public typo (Ina)

Ina gave us the advice to collect typografie from public places. Here are my first examples.

For the "Synopsis"-magazine I´d like to show up more pictures like the one of the cyclepath.
The path is signed by typografie on the right side but is coloured on the left.
So what!?
